  • Show Notes
  • [00:42] Patrick introduces his next TEDM guest Kelly Roach.
  • [02:47] Kelly gets the ball rolling by sharing what she and her companies do in the world of business and the extraordinary blessing of living what she teaches through home schooling her daughter. Kelly explains a big reason why she and her husband chose this route.
  • [06:44] Building a business around our own core values. Kelly observes that when her clients initially reach out, the unsatisfied business owner has built a business based on other people’s values, not their own. Kelly educates her clients to learn business models and constructs from people who have achieved what they want to achieve, but ensure it’s built around their own core values and unique life design.
  • [11:31] Business operations and our own operating system. Kelly speaks to the importance of alignment between the inner work and the outer work to build a business over $10M. Scaling a business is more a mental game than anything else. She explains how an entrepreneur may need to change their mind to scale.
  • [14:44] Kelly discusses her early experience of hiring and building exceptional teams. This was the catalyst for teaching entrepreneurs the principles necessary in a small business to recruit, train, hire and elevate team members effectively so they can focus on their own zone of genius.
  • [17:55] Building on that process, Kelly further breaks down operations and zone of genius to business owners so they can get out of their own way to allow the right team members to replicate systems for scale.
  • [20:32] Kelly’s journey from climbing the corporate ladder to jumping off and into the world of entrepreneurship. Once she reached senior leadership levels, Kelly looked around and realized although she had the skillset to elevate in the company, she had no desire to lead that life, and she needed to go out and create the life she wanted to have.
  • [22:57] Kelly defines her purpose and the message she desires to share.
  • [25:51] Going back to her early days, Kelly wasn’t naturally driven to become an entrepreneur, she envisioned the corporate life as her path. She discovered along the way that creating her own businesses would be more aligned with her purpose and mission. Her family provided the foundation in faith that has informed and shaped all that she undertakes.
  • [27:43] Kelly describes what she feels is a faith life for each of us. We are all here for a reason, with a purpose to our existence, innate talents to share, and to be of service. Connection to something beyond our selves also creates hope.
  • [30:50] Without clarity, purpose, and a way to stay grounded, business owners can easily lose sight of why they’re doing what they’re doing and get stuck.
  • [34:21] Self leadership is essential in today’s society and world of social media. Culture is not what is going to propel us. Acknowledge where we are being taken down the stream, and instead get in our own boat, decide where we want to paddle and get on our way to lead a rich and fulfilling life.
  • [36:20] In Kelly’s observation life design and longevity are often less on people’s minds. What they see on social media or pop culture is defining their choices. In Kelly’s work she often needs to help clients unwind those things to rebuild in a way that serves their life sustainably and joyfully. Every decision we make should be one that gives us more power of choice, not less.
  • [41:24] Kelly and her team attract and work with elite performers and entrepreneurs who understand the level of responsibility and execution required to get a return on their investment with her high-end coaching programs. Kelly explains that that her filters have needed to become more stringent because not everyone investing in their services are ready, willing, and able to execute at a high level.
  • [45:00] Kelly shares one of many fork in the road moments which, after some very hard lessons, has altered the way she approaches and starts new projects. No failure is ever fatal unless you let it be the reason you quit.
  • [49:50] Kelly and Patrick each share their experience with partnerships, core values, and the work ethic required to deliver an exceptional level of service to customers.
  • [52:45] Nothing is possible without the right team, at home and at work. Kelly’s husband cleared the way for her to be the leader, and CEO she needs to be and has made it possible for them to have a rich marriage and together with their daughter have a rich home and family life.
  • [56:02] How did Kelly’s experience as a cheerleader in the NFL, contribute to her business life? It starts with the standards of excellence demanded by the NFL organizations.
  • [57:52] Kelly describes who she is and how she desires to occur in the world.
  • [59:30] Shifting into a quick rapid fire. Apple or Android; her favourite musician is close to her heart; favourite movie; favourite swear word; message at the pearly gates.
  • [61:22] Kelly’s gratitude.
