Episode 172 – Daniel Gomez – Inspiring You to Fly!

“Your dream is for you.” – Daniel Gomez

  • [0:42] Patrick introduces his next TEDM guest, Daniel Gomez.
  • [02:05] Daniel and Patrick get started as Daniel shares how he works with entrepreneurs and organizations to grow and scale. He starts by helping them to see their value, improve self-image, and move beyond self-imposed limitations.
  • [05:29] Asking ourselves the tough questions is the start to understanding where we operate from and place our value. Daniel walks through some of the preliminary questions he asks of his clients on their onboarding call and the financial setpoint cycles he observes.
  • [11:33] Accountability. Whether we commit to ourselves, a coach, a partner, or a group, or all of the above, accountability is the best way to self-assess and support ourselves against self-sabotage.
  • [15:17] Daniel and Patrick each share examples from clients they work with who, likely without realizing it, have imposed a financial cap on how much money they make and are capable of making in their business. It’s a common trap that new entrepreneurs who have left a 9-5 job fall into.
  • [19:00] Ego and shame. Many of us are inadvertently conditioned early on to dim our light. Your dream is for you. Protect that because people are going to laugh at you before they applaud you. Daniel shares his own story of leaving his high-paying career to look after his wife and then go after his gift of being a motivational speaker.
  • [25:30] Conditioning creates belief systems (BS) that restrict how we view ourselves. In working with entrepreneurs Daniel helps people to move beyond their identity limitations and BS, to embrace themselves as successful business owners. Everything can change for us regardless of where we’ve started, and our character needs to grow with us. Celebrate and acknowledge the wins, humility can be taught later.
  • [29:40] The Journey of Becoming. Daniel speaks to what we need to work through to accomplish the great things we say we want to do. It’s a big leap for many but in Daniel’s view it’s non-negotiable.
  • [33:47] We want a different result, but we don’t want to change. Daniel highlights this truth: life is a series of seasons, and we will carry ourselves differently to each season of life. We must let go of the previous season to continue to grow. Similarly, life and business operate through seasons where there is a time to sow, make connections, build relationships, there is a time to reap, and there is a time to rest.
  • [41:42] Wondering one reason why your business isn’t growing? Daniel shares a story to answer that!
  • [43:32] Daniel describes how he heard and received a message from God about becoming a motivational speaker. Our lives 5 years ago, prepare us for our lives now.
  • [46:57] Patrick shares his experience of starting The Everyday Millionaire Podcast and Mindset Matters, not thinking at that time it would have the listenership it does. We think everyone already knows the stuff we want to share, but the truth is they either don’t or they don’t know that they know it, so conversations like these are a helpful reminder.
  • [50:29] Daniel shares insights into the experience of his wife having breast cancer, what they ignored, and what they needed to pay attention to.
  • [54:10] The root of Daniel’s desire to be an entrepreneur and to do what he’s does now, started very simply: a desire to belong and be heard. His focus on being a motivational speaker drove the successful by-products of his business now. Daniel believes many entrepreneurs don’t achieve what they want because they dilute their focus in order to generate multiple streams of income, rather than focus on one main thing that funds everything else.
  • [57:27] Daniel and Patrick speak about recognizing our gift, recognizing it’s different than anyone else’s and using that gift to be of contribution and significance in the world.
  • [61:04] To realize success we must push ourselves at times and overcome difficult circumstances.
  • [62:18] Let’s get the rapid fire burnin! Android or iPhone; room-desk-car; impactful book; no swear words for this guy; favourite Sunday song; favourite movies; favourite inspirational quote.
  • [66:39] Daniel’s gratitude.
