Episode 211 – Simon Severino – Strategy Sprints: Design Your Desirable Future
“Let’s create those multiple revenue streams both on the active side, some of them recurring, some on the passive side and bit by bit they compound.” – Simon Severino
- Simon Severino has created +2B in additional sales for his clients over the last 21 years. As an advisor who became CEO, he had to learn the importance of working ON the business more than IN it.
- Now, he shares his proven templates with high-ticket entrepreneurs. They reclaim 14 hours per week using the Strategy Sprints™ Method and enjoy sales that soar. Simon is the author of “Strategy Sprints”, Podcast Host Ranking Top 2.5%, a TEDx speaker, Forbes contributor and Triathlete. He has appeared on over 1300 podcasts which reflects his commitment to sharing knowledge with a broad audience.
- When he is not supercharging sales, you’ll find him swimming, biking, running and tricking his 3 kids into outdoor activities so they can’t escape his annoying shrinky questions.
- In this episode Simon shares his superpower and how it helps business owners all over the world get clear and focused to double their revenues in 90 days. - Show Notes
- [00:42] Patrick introduces his next TEDM guest Simon Severino.
- [02:20] Simon and Patrick get started with Simon’s Superpower, who he serves with that strength and what expertise he and his team bring to the table to supercharge their clients’ businesses.
- [06:50] Simon describes the type of business owner who would seek their services and provides a couple of examples of how they can help.
- [8:38] Using one of those examples, Simon picks social media to explain how they use it together with their client to not only market and increase business revenue but have fun doing it. Simon also talks about the platforms he enjoys using.
- [11:52] The Twilight Zone. In a challenging economic cycle and certainly a reflection of the societal gap of the disappearing middle class, Simon explains the trends they are seeing in the B2B format of sales.
- [14:13] Patrick summarizes the reality of who is being most impacted by these economic times and how companies may need to shift or elevate their product to serve those markets effectively and successfully.
- [16:00] Simon talks about the value threshold for sales pipelines to stay robust and the type of offering that is currently having the most success.
- [18:18] Savings Rate. Simon walks through an example of what a strong savings rate is and how a business owner can utilize it to build a strong foundation for financial success.
- [20:06] Once clients have completed their 90-day Strategy Sprints process and realized increased profits, Simon and his team have additional streams of support to teach clients how to keep it. How to allocate those profits into wealth building assets that uniquely resonate with them. Simon shares his personal investment portfolio allocation which can also be found on his YouTube channel!
- [23:50] A data guy and strategist at heart, Simon assists his clients with both fundamental and technical analysis for stocks and digital assets and he shares the framework for his evaluation. With his real estate assets Simon looks at location, size, rentability and a long term (forever) hold with a plan to pass the assets to his kids.
- [28:02] Emotionality vs. data. Investing is a process and takes time. Research, find a handful or two of solid investments, stay on top of them and ride them for 5 or 10 years without bouncing around. Simon offers two company stocks he is investing in, not as advice but simply an example of how he approaches his analysis.
- [33:52] In working with thousands of entrepreneurs, Simon comes across a common theme when it comes to allocating profits in their business. He shares what that is and how he coaches them around it.
- [36:31] Simon shares how his entrepreneurial journey began, from an employee to striking out on his own. Gaining financial literacy helped him formulate his savings rate, which led to investment in real estate, and then to scale his own business. He captured the Strategy Sprints Method from his brain to paper, fired himself from operations, and began to franchise and teach this model to others. He no longer depended on the business and the business did not depend on him.
- [40:07] Scaling his business to pull himself out of operational dependency was a deliberate effort and one he worked hard to achieve with the support of coaches and mentors. Investing is more of a “stumble and learn” undertaking but in this endeavor, Simon also embraces a community of like-minded people in the 200K Club he created, so they can learn from one other.
- [43:19] The importance of blocking time in your calendar to just think. Whether that’s walking, sitting, standing, running, Simon and Patrick both riff on their own need to set aside that time for what Patrick calls “headspace.”
- [45:03] Simon offers guidance around building multiple replacement income streams both active and passive for greater peace of mind.
- [46:52] Amid the turbulence of political, economic, and overreach concerns Simon discusses his approach. Tune into the signal not the noise. Keep focus on what he can control in his world, set up his offensive and defensive plays in layers and set aside the circumstances that are outside of his control.
- [49:35] Simon explains his approach to capitalization, risk mitigation and hedging. He looks at the current situation and zooms out ten years. He describes what he does pay attention to and what he doesn’t. Secular trends not cyclical. For example, demographic shifts: globally are people getting older or younger? Having more kids or less? Older and less kids. So, now focus on what those trends will require (brain and mobility support, companion animals as examples), do diligence and study companies that offer these solutions.
- [53:40] Patrick and Simon talk Tesla as an example of a long-term play.
- [57:57] Simon offers a final piece of guidance to business owners, one activity that they can start doing today with their “Daily Flow” tool.
